WHY I drink Butter Coffee

So lots of you see on social media and my friends and family who know me know I love coffee, Well actually I am not a coffee connoisseur as I do not or cannot ever drink coffee as it comes. I only ever drink coffee with a good amount of fat in it. I am getting lots of questions recently as to why I drink coffee this way. So I have decided to put some of the main reasons I drink it, but lets not forget the main reason. I actually think it taste really good, and I know it contains good sources of nutrients. For me that's the most important thing. If it tasted nasty I wouldn't drink it just because its healthy. I like real food and I like food that tastes amazing. Now here are a few reasons as to why I drink butter coffee or bullet proof coffee so lets start with the basics firstly -

NOT ALL COFFEE IS EQUAL!

If you didn't know this its ok, for a long time I was drinking any coffee, until I realized and was educated on how coffee is and was really processed and made. Now let me tell you coffee is not equal. Coffee is still one of the most sprayed food items on the planet. And what is more concerning is that we buy coffee beans from countries that have way less legal systems and laws as to what is allowed to be done to food. So many chemicals that are banned in say the U.S and Canada are not enforced in other countries so they are allowed to spray and grow under different guidelines. So the first thing I would always advise is always and I mean always buy organic coffee. And here's why!

First, conventional coffee is among the most heavily chemically treated foods in the world. It is steeped in synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides – a real mouthful with a bad taste and highly carcinogenic. Not only does the environment suffer from this overload, but so do the people who live in it. Farmers are exposed to a high level of chemicals while spraying the crops and while handling them during harvest. The surrounding communities are also impacted through chemical residues in the air and water. These chemical presences are not just unpleasant; many are highly toxic and detrimental to human health. The current stats will tell you that the average coffee crop of 1 acre of farming is sprayed with over 250lb of chemicals and this can be up to and over 3000 different chemicals know to us. If you start to research the types of chemicals and the side effects they are quite scary, but all highly carcinogenic and high links to cancer. And for something that most people consume daily and multiple times a day, this is a choice of food I would always advise to buy organic.

Why organic?

Well organic coffee is grown with only organic fertilizers, like coffee pulp, chicken manure, or compost. Organic farms also combat climate change by emitting less carbon than chemical farms, while also sequestering significant amounts of carbon. As a bonus, organic coffee beans are richer in healthful antioxidants, and many people can even taste the difference.

Your health, and the health of the planet, both get a benefit as organic beans are loaded with good stuff like essential nutrients, polyphenols, antioxidants. Study after study also shows it improves your focus and memory recall, and lowers your risk of stroke and heart failure.

But not all coffee is created equal, and the quality of your coffee beans counts. Coffee often carries naturally-occurring mold toxins — these can be carcinogenic and impair the immune system

Why Add Fat?

Studies show that combining medium-chain triglycerides like coconut Oil with other fats increases its fat-burning effects. Caffeine also increases your body’s ability to burn fat for energy, making coffee and good fats a great team. The fats from the butter and coconut oil also slow the absorption of the caffeine, giving you a gentler, steadier dose of energy throughout the morning. certain fats and oils also turns into ketones, and ketones suppress ghrelin, your hunger hormone, and increase cholecystokinin (CCK), which makes you feel full. This makes it easier for you to go for longer periods without eating, which encourages your body to reach into its fat stores for energy. Grass-fed butter gives butter Coffee its creamy consistency. It also gives you quality fats that help keep you full and fueled. It’s the key ingredient to one of the creamiest lattes you’ll ever have. Not only that, but grass-fed butter is a good source of butyrate and contains important nutrients like Vitamin A, beta-carotene, and the fatty acid CLA.

And for those of you with a lactose intolerance, try ghee, which has most of the lactose removed.

And the great news is if you don't like coffee you can do this to any hot drink that you like to increase health and wellness. You don’t have to use coffee to get the energy boost and mental focus from butter and coconut oil. You can blend up just about any beverage with these powerhouse ingredients to get similar benefits. Try tea, matcha, Yerba mate, hot chocolate, or turmeric tea for some variety.

And remember don’t add any sugar (and that includes honey or maple syrup). Sugar will affect your blood sugar levels and keep you from burning fat. If you must use a sweetener, try xylitol, erythritol, or stevia. But try it without first, you'll be surprised at how good it actually taste.
